I have many Wifi issues with my 802IIIS. The main issue is that my antenna is shorted with ground signal.

I´ve opened the device and the antenna seams to be soldered above the micro USB connector leads, which are ground by default. I don´t know if the leads of the micro usb passes thru the PCB, but if they do, my antenna was soldered there...

I removed the excess of solding (Tin) of the area, and this is how it looks:

Do you have a pic like this of your PCB??

I´ve mounted my RK exactly as I posted: without any antenna. In my case it was shorted to ground signal, i don´t know why...

Now I have -80dbm of Wifi. My Nexus 4 placed side by side got -75dbm. For me it´s wonderful... With antenna cable it don´t even saw wifi signal!

But there is an old problem: wifi speed keeps dropping randomly. Just the speed, the signal itself stays strong.

I always thought the outer braid on the antenna wire should be attchaed to ground as it is shielding. as long at the inner and outer leads arent soldered together it should be fine?

I don´t know if you are right... If you shield the outer mesh, it shouldn´t receive signal.

The outer mesh is grounded on cables, when you want to block interference. But for antennas, i think it would block the signal.

In my case both were GND.
