MK802IV LE with BeagleBone Black

Postby sukeshlal » Tue Aug 05, 2014 12:24 am

I am trying to connect my Beaglebone Black (BBB) board to the MK802IV LE but having problems communicating using USB over Ethernet. I am using BBB for additional IOs interfaces (CAN, serial, PWM etc).

Background: BBB has a USB device interface that supports Ethernet over USB so when I normally connect it to a Windows PC or a Linux (Ubuntu 12.x) PC or even to Ubuntu running on VM Player on a Windows PC, I automatically get a new network interface with IP addresses 192.168.7.1 on the PC side and 192.168.7.2 on the BBB. I can then ping each other, open SSH connection and even have my client-server app running just fine (using TCP connection). Below is the ifconfig/ping run on Ubuntu (runing under VM Player) with BBB connected over USB (host):
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
sukesh@BBone-AppHost:~$ ifconfig
eth4 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 1c:ba:8c:ed:ea:96
inet addr:192.168.7.1 Bcast:192.168.7.3 Mask:255.255.255.252
inet6 addr: fe80::1eba:8cff:feed:ea96/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:2 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:44 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:580 (580.0 B) TX bytes:10861 (10.8 KB)

sukesh@BBone-AppHost:~$ ping 192.168.7.2
PING 192.168.7.2 (192.168.7.2) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.7.2: icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=4.91 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.7.2: icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=2.64 ms

3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 2004ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 2.466/3.341/4.913/1.114 ms

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now when I connect BBB to MK802IV LE, I do see the new network connection (192.168.7 1) on MK802IV LE and 192.168.7.2 on the BBB. But I can’t communicate with each other. Below is the ifconfig/ping run on MK802IV LE with BBB connected to the USB host port:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

picuntu@g8picuntu:~$ ifconfig
eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 1c:ba:8c:ed:ea:96
inet addr:192.168.7.1 Bcast:192.168.7.3 Mask:255.255.255.252

^C
--- 192.168.7.2 ping statistics ---
6 packets transmitted, 0 received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss, time 5013ms

picuntu@g8picuntu:~$

picuntu@g8picuntu:~$ ping beaglebone.local
PING beaglebone.local (192.168.7.2) 56(84) bytes of data.
From g8picuntu.local (192.168.7.1) icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
From g8picuntu.local (192.168.7.1) icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From g8picuntu.local (192.168.7.1) icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
^C
--- beaglebone.local ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 0 received, +3 errors, 100% packet loss, time 4106ms
pipe 3
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ifconfig shows the same on both cases. Is there any security settings or route setting that I need to change? Can anyone help me figure why I am not able to ping even though they are on the same network?

Thanks!
