Clipped Display

Postby mark984 » Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:46 pm

I have horizontal display clipping with my MK802. Vertically it is fine, buy the left and right sides are slightly clipped. The clipping is sufficient enough that it affects the usability of the device.

I have tried it on multiple quality displays with the same problem. Just to be thorough I even tried a different hdmi cable. Doing a quick google search, I found a few reviewers that had the same issue.

Is this a known issue, and is there a fix for this?

Also, why does the device only output at 720P, when the specs advertise it as 1080P?

Thanks.

Hi,

I am aware of the clipped display that some users are seeing, this can be remedied by altering the settings of your display so that it doesn't auto scale to the input signal.

The MK802 is totally capable of outputting 1080p, currently it is a software limitation on the Android firmware which will hopefully be addressed in the next update. Actually 1080p is now working under linux so the next step is applying the update to Android.

Thanks,

Andy

The scaling options of one display are unavailable when hooked up to the device. The scaling options of my other display only make the issue worse, particularly when I set it to 1:1.

When will this 'hopefully be addressed"? I currently have a device that is unusable with my displays, due to its firmware issues.

As to your assertion that the MK802 is capable of 1080p output, I have to disagree. Hardware abilities aside, this device is being sold and marketed as an Android 4.0 device capable of 1080P. Now. Out of the box. Not maybe, possibly, hopefully we'll fix the firmware and make it work in the future, but right now. The specs in my user manual state that it is an android 4.0 device that can output 1080P. So do the specs on the back of the box. I'm glad that linux can output 1080P, but I purchased this as an android device.

On this same note, some of the MK802 marketing mentions 1080p/2160p, what's the deal with the latter?

Yeah its capable of 2160p (Super HD) - Again this is in hardware so OS support will likely come soon for that too.
