Anyone know how to get sound out of it?

Postby el_gallo_azul » Wed Jan 21, 2015 2:42 am

Firstly, I have been told that sound is available via HDMI. However, I use this computer with a normal computer monitor, which doesn't have any speakers.

For the last couple of decades, I've been using external speakers that plug in using a 3.5mm stereo jack.

Rikomagic told me last week that "the AV port is currently disabled in the linux kernel as most people just use the HDMI output.".

1. Would there be any alternatives to the HDMI output?

2. Or, does anyone know of a device to get from HDMI audio to 3.5mm stereo socket?

There are cables availeble from HDMI to audio/video. I do not now if this will work if sound is diabled.

I myself use a usb audio-interface (Focusrite Saffire 6 usb). Is has a USB 2 port and workes just great! Music productions via jackctl and Ardour ar quite possible.

OK thanks @EJF.

I'm not very mobile, but I will see what cables are available the next time that I am able.

Crikey.

After all that, I found, and was about to place an order for this device, and I thought that before spending the money, I'd better make absolutely sure that my monitor doesn't already have a 3.5mm socket.

When I looked this time, I found one. I tested it, and it works.

So this whole thread was unnecessary.
