What do you mean with "left the slot open"?

I mean empty, no sd card inserted.

Re-Install Google PlayStore

Postby theinquisitor » Fri Oct 12, 2012 3:57 pm

I also updated to firmware 29.09 and had the same problem as others; after setting up Google PlayStore, the device would no longer boot up (just freeze on the Rikomagic screen). However, I now seem to have solved it.

What I did was first download the latest Google PlayStore (the .apk file) from this link:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/10/11/download-latest-google-play-store-3-9-16-with-new-ability-to-remove-apps-from-the-all-apps-list/

I saved it to my USB flash drive (not my micro sd).

I then re-flashed the unit with firmware 29.09 on the micro sd card. When it booted up, I removed the microsd card and inserted my USB drive and installed the Google PlayStore version I had. It will ask whether you want to overwrite the current version; just say yes.

After Google PlayStore was re-installed, I THEN set it up(i.e. logged on) and rebooted the device. All is working now and there is no more freezing. I can even download apps like normal.

I actually did this last night and used version 3.8.17 of Google PlayStore but I now notice that there is a newer version today (3.9.16).

Anyway, hopefully this procedure solves the issue with others and we can all enjoy firmware 29.09 again!

I guess after using PlayStore, you only have to reboot once with an SD card installed, then the damage is done.

Re-Install Google PlayStore To Fix 29.09

Postby theinquisitor » Sat Oct 13, 2012 12:35 am

I also flashed with 29.09 and suffered the same fate; after setting up Google PlayStore the device would get stuck on bootup.

My fix was to:
1) Download the latest Google PlayStore apk to a USB drive. I downloaded it here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/10/11/download-latest-google-play-store-3-9-16-with-new-ability-to-remove-apps-from-the-all-apps-list/;
2) Re-flash the Riko with 29.09 via the microsd
3) Remove the microSD, boot up the Riko and re-install the Google PlayStore apk from the USB drive.
4) Setup Google Playstore and reboot.
5) That fixed it for me. Now I have the latest firmware flashed and Google PlayStore working, plus no problems with rebooting.

Hope this helps others.

As I understood nobody can test it yet, because as soon you enable Google Play to install Skype - the device won't reboot
