Netflix and Hulu on MK802 II

Postby sciurus » Fri Sep 07, 2012 2:55 am

I got my MK802 II today. In Google Play, Hulu Plus is available to install, but when I run it it says "Device not supported [142]". In Google Play, Netflix is not installable, it says "Your device isn't compatible with this version." I downloaded the Netflix apk via another android device and installed it on my MK802 II via the file browser. However, it won't start. When I launch it, the screen goes black briefly, then returns to the list of applications.

Are these apps working for anyone else?

Just google for Netflix and Hulu apk and I am sure you can sideload it from somewhere.

He stated in the original post that he already tried to do that with Netflix and it won't work.

I don't believe Hulu works on anything that isn't "approved" by them, which is dumb and just another reason (in addition to ads, etc.) why Hulu sucks compared to Netflix. For what it's worth, Netflix worked perfectly fine for me out of the box on my original MK802 but I don't have the newer model like you do.

Actually he said that he downloaded the app from Google Play. I'm suggesting that he gets it from an alternative source. You can find the apk because these apps are usually not available to countries not supported by Netflix and Hulu but there are people who use VPN to access them, like me for instance.

BTW, I did get Netflix working on my MK802. I couldn't understand it though. Originally I did get the Netflix app via XDA forums because it won't install on my phone as it was not available in my country. But strangely when the new version of Netflix was released, Google Play allowed me to update my sideloaded app.

When I signed in my MK802 using the same account as my phone, the Netflix app was available to download as well and that is where I got my copy. No problems installing or running it. Not sure about Hulu though because I don't have a paid account.

He sideloaded it by downloading it on another device. Where do you think the apk's come from that you can find online?

Have you updated the build prop to be another model other then the mk802 II ? You can try that. I changed it to say that it was the Samsung Galaxy II which has the same specs as that device.

I changed these two values in my build.prop and rebooted, but it didn't change the behavior.

ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung

The new netflix app doesn't work on my MK802+ - it shuts down immediately, and the logcat doesn't give much information.
The older netflix 1.8.1 apk works beautifully for me. Search for it, easy to find.
