Technical: Using Mk802 II as Arcade cabinet => HDMI/VGA

Postby Profete162 » Sat Sep 08, 2012 7:55 am

Hello all,

I am currently working on a arcade cabinet that would work with Android and for this purpose, I bought the MK802 II on Ebay.

Here is a video of the project working fine with a Motorola Xoom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOJ6QUXp ... ture=g-upl

SO, that is working perfectly on any Android device, and also on MK802 II.

The big issue is now to connect an old computer screen to it (VGA/DVI), as it is impossible to find a 4:3 ratio screen with HDMI input.

I have tried several passive HDMI to DVI adapters

But I get a bleck screen, same issue than this topic: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=112

SO, I plan now to buy an active HDMI to VGA Adapter:

But I really would like to have more informations about screen scaling and if such solution could work on a 17 inches CRT screen without breaking.

To be honest, the work I put in this project + electronic + screen + MK802 + adapter is already high and I don't want to waste 30 extra bucks for a useless adapter.

Thank a lot for any information.

The MK802 should be able to output to a DVI connector on a monitor via HDMI as it is a digital-digital connection. The monitor must of course support 720p or 1080p or whatever you set the MK802 display output to. However, to connect using VGA, you will need to convert the digital signal to an analog signal that the VGA port can understand.

I've used a HDMI->VGA/Component + SPDIF converter for this and it works. However the model that I used does not support scaling so it just outputs whatever it receives from the HDMI. There is another model on Amazon that supports scaling but I've no idea how well it works. Details here: http://www.squidoo.com/mk802-troublesho ... e161732391
