Finless ROM.. any feedback?

Postby gabbian0 » Wed Dec 12, 2012 8:12 am

I'm going to flash my MK802 III with Finless Rom 1.7 for UG802 (link)
Anyone already tried it? It's easy to install? Performances?

I flashed it using the in-built Finless flash tool. Worked really well.
I originally used the 1080p version and it does actually output 1080p (not upscaled) but I found I couldn't read anything from my couch on my 42" TV so I changed it to the 720P version. All the icons are bigger and easier to read, and videos don't look any different so I'm sticking with it. Also, apparently the 720P has less bugs than the 1080p but I can't really comment on that.
I haven't tried the 1600mhz overclocked kernels as they recommend a heatsink for the UG802 so I don't want to risk it. the 1200 kernel is nice and speedy enough.
My MK802III still seems to freeze at random times if left on, but it was doing that on stock firmware anyway so it's not a problem with the rom.
I'd say go for it.
I did have a problem where the Finless flash tool would show the mk802III as connected to teh computer in USB mode, but it couldn't then put it into flash mode. I just ran the tool from this post:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2725
and pressed the "switch" button to put the mk802III into flash mode, then flashed with the finless tool.
(BTW to put the viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2725 tool into english, press the bottom-left button, then choose the second option.)

just installed the 1080p version, everything was smooth, the device looks quite better now, now display it's REALLY 1080, i think it's the better ROM choice for now

yes I've tried it
and it works fine, fast and stable, a good alternative
but I have returned back to this firmware http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/rikomagic-mk802iii-minipc-rooted-firmware-20121129-remote-control/ again to get more Internal storage for app.

I tried for several hours to install this rom, but I couldn't get Rom Flashtool to recognize my MK802III.
I followed the instructions to the letter but flashtool always shows "No Found RKAndroid rock usb".
Reinstalling the drivers, different USB ports, different usb cables etc. didn't help either.
USB debugging is off, I did change between MTP and USB storage.
Anyone have similar problems with Windows 7 64Bit?

This is my feedback about Finless ROM (crossposting from freaktab):

Hi!

I'm another mk802III user from Brazil.

I just received 2 unit of MK802III a few days ago. I'll give one to my younger son at chritsmas and keep the other for myself... rsrsrs

The first thing I did was the stock firmware upgrade, like described on this link (vie...87ce8362755d0c ).

It was a very, very simple process, since all you have to do is put a update.img file at root directory of a FAT32 empty pendrive (I've tried with a micro-SD card first, but I had no lucky with it).

With 20121129 firmware, the device is rooted. So, makes a little bit easier to flash Finless ROM.

After this update, I installed a terminal emulator from google play and typed:

su [enter]
reboot bootloader [enter]

And jumped right into the driver installation steps at Finless ROM flash instructions.

The only problem I have (and it scares me for a little while) was that the second device didnt reboot after flashing finless ROM (everything was ok, no errors messages at all).

So, i did a google search and found the information about open MK802 cover and short two pins with some metal to force a flash mode.

(credit for this information: http://www.armtvtech.com/armtvtechfo....php?f=12&t=13 )

After 3 or 4 tries, i got it.

So, flash it again and worked fine at this time...

The usb hub I'm using is this encore, that also have ethernet port (works a lot better than mk802 wifi):

And for now, the power source is an iPad 5.1v 2.1A charger.

For interaction, RC11 air mouse/keyboard (working very fine)

With BSPlayer free I can play 720p or 1080p MKV, from SMB share, with no hiccups (thru wifi only 720p works good, at 150Mbps connection, some inches away from wireless router).

The only thing I like to see working better on MK802III is the Netflix movies resolution. It's not HD and looks like poor youtube videos.

Anyway, thanks for make available a ROM with lots of improvements.
