Boot from USB HD in MK802II?

Postby rickyzhang » Tue Feb 18, 2014 4:39 pm

After running my home server on MK802 for a year, the Sand disk SD card is dead. I love this ARM sticks to host my git over ssh server and my personal blog.

However, I'm really sick of using SD card. Sand disk claims that you got a life warranty for their unreliable stuffs. But who cares if it die so soon. I'm looking for a better solution to boot MK802 II.

There may be two possible way:

Route 1: flash kernel in MK802 NAND and boot root file system from USB external HD.

Route 2: Install U-Boot and kernel in SD card and boot root file system from USB external HD.

For route 1, I'm not familiar with flashing stuffs to MK802. But it is a neat way to get rid of dear Sand disk crap. Route 2 seems to be an easy way to me. I only need to modify boot.scr file.

Anyone experienced the similar problem before? Any suggestions will be appreciated except suggesting buying new SD crap.
