Slow wifi for no apparent reason.

Postby baronpork » Wed Jul 18, 2012 7:47 pm

So, at last i got the gadget. Intended to use it to stream movies off local DLNA.
And apparently my mk802 is absolutely useless at it because i just cannot get anything faster than ~300-500 kbps out of it.
My network is fine, i have three other android devices that easily speedtest at 6-8 mbps. At the same time as mk802 is on and connected...
The other devices are SGS1 SGS2 and SG Tab 7". Even my old piece of junk HTC Touch Pro reaches up to 5mbps...

So, what gives ?

Tried testing with HDMI cable out - no change.
Tried connecting with hdmi cable out - no change as well.
Tried changing wifi channels - no change. Not that it would make any difference, there are no nearby Wifi to interfere...
Tried disconnecting my wireless analogue CCTV - no change.

So, any ideas ?

please do not make multiple topics for your issue... i have deleted the other topic and no warning shall be issued due to the site being under construction and this may be a server error.

please try the new firmware update recently released and let us know if it solves your issue.

please post which app you used to test wifi speed and i will test on my device and post results for comparison.

thanks and enjoy the forum!!!

Hello,
In my case, this issue was caused by included power adapter which either didnt supply enough power or caused some interference issues.
Try powering your device with some usb charger. I use my phone charger that claims to provide 700mA and everything works just fine. :D

Well, original psu blew up right before i wrote initial post here... No change in mk802 units behavior afterwards, assume it didn't suffer any damage because same tests were performed pre and post psu blowup.

Now it is powered by my old HTC Touch Pro power supply, which is 5V 2A, as original was.

Did some experiments and results blew me off, the bad way. The unit still cant connect at any faster rate than ~300-500kbps down.
The real weird bit is that it JAMS all 2.4-2.5ghz range while uploading during speed tests... all wifi devices, wireless mice and keyboards, which i have 3 in the house stop working.

Router and network in general is functioning properly as per tests with multiple devices - Samsung Galaxy S, SII, Tab7, PS3, PSP, HTC Touch PRO, Asus netbook - all work, tested separately and simultaneously. As soon as mk802 starts UPLOAD speed test everything dies, mice and all... It jams IS OWN MOUSE while uploading...

I did HDMI pulling excercises, pre boot, post boot, pre speedtest, post speedtest... it doesnt work...

Definitely something wrong with radio...

I've already written to seller (ebay, HK) asking for refund.

Also a question popped up in my mind - are there any mk802 knockoffs yet ? (you get my train of thought here, dont you ?)

I use official speedtest.net from play store for android and their flash equivalent for pc testing...

Edit1 - all other devices test in range of 7 to 9 mbps, thats internet access speed. I get full pelt 54-130mbps wifi if i need something transferred via wifi...
